Dead or Alive

It’s mothers day and I am reminded of what an amazing gift it is to be a mother. I am also reminded of the delicate nature of motherhood. There is no rule book and sometimes when you think you are doing it most right you are so wrong. I don’t usually use the word right and wrong because effective and ineffective seem much more powerful but when it comes to being a mother right and wrong seem the words to choose.

My children were not afraid to tell me when they felt I had messed up in all sorts of ways. It took me awhile to understand and listen probably till now actually. I was so invested in being “the mother” The one who knew and truly I became a mother at barely (weeks into) being 24. How much do you know at that age? I felt I was supposed to know. It is such a balance between knowing and being open to not knowing. My daughter is teaching me that so deeply now.

I don’t know what she needs though sometimes I think I do. I need to listen to her with my ears, my heart, my intuition and then ask her what she wants not needs wants. She will let me know if she needs. I can offer and not be attached to whether the offer is accepted or rejected. Being a mother really means being fierce as an Eagle who’s babies are being threatened and smooth as  dark purple velvet drapes. Leading from our emotional states not productive. Being from our depth of perception very supportive. I wished I knew what I know now when I was 24 yet I feel that I wouldn’t have embraced it then.

I think we need to have our brains totally washed out from all we have be told and advised of when we give birth. All the books we have read need to be purged. We just need to have the eyes of birth where we experience the miracles of birth and have the visions of what is truly sustaining to this body and soul that has come to and through us.

So on this day honoring Mothers  I just want to say thank you to all mothers who have had the courage to trip , stumble, and fall flat on your faces and get up and do it again. To ask those who may have better answers. To ask forgiveness from our children when we blow it. To ask forgiveness from our own critical natures for we really want what is best for these majical beings. Allow your vision of what that might be to expand and get out of their way. They know more than you think.

One child the other day was telling a friend of his that brothers and sisters are enemies until they get much older. The other child, a child of one of my students, said, “My sister and I are frenemies.” When his Mom asked what that was “frenenmies”. He said very matter of factly, “Sometimes friends and sometimes enemies.” May we remember this wisdom for it is true and so is it true with us and our children. Allow yourself to feel the frenemies. Then get into your heart of hearts and laugh for that gives us the clarity we really need to be mothers. Breathe and know that this moment is another chance to be more vast, more light natured, more joyous and hopeful.

YOU, YOU are the one

The God connecting that goes on at this time of year is more about respect for a concept that real deep connection. I know that may seem blasphemous but it is true . We are worshiping symbols. Symbols though great revealers that they are they are not the essence. They are the decoder of the essence.

This season is abound with symbols many pagan such as the tree, the feasting, the light all pagan that the Christians adopted without any to do just attached them right on. They slid Baby Jesus right in under the tree, not literally but his Birth was placed right under the guise of Winter Solstice Celebration.Great way to get away with their celebration undetected.

I want to ask you, What are you celebrating at this time of year? No right nor wrong answer just look at what you are celebrating. Is this something you consciously  choose? Something that was passed down to you? Do you really understand and find solace in your celebration?  I would love to hear from you. It really is a time to take a long cold look at what we are doing with these Holy Days. Is it what we want to be doing?

Where is the sacred in your Holy Days? Are you having any direct connections to your own essence or is it just the symbol? The abounding joy. We will really know if it is ours by do we hit the wall when it’s all over. When January hits will you miss all the parties or will you still feel the party inside you that is always there?

This is time to understand that party has the word part as part of it. When it is time to part do you come apart? When it is time to part do you still carry the connection with you? What is your reaction to parting. We all want to be a part of things so our longing can be fulfilled. You have to have you to truly be a part of everything. You need a base, a foundation to build anything.

Know you you are the one. You are the awakening one find the essence don’t settle for the symbols no matter how lovely they may be.

Light, lite, lit Which are you?

I had a realization this morning while teaching. Out of my mouth popped this,” How can you be a light when the load you are carrying is so heavy?” I realized that each moment we get to choose anew what is more important our light or our load. Here we are at this precious time of year we call Solstices. Precious because it beckons us to get really connected. We do, we connect with everyone but ourselves.

Winter Solstice is the feminine Solstices we reach the darkest moment on our side of the  planet. We sometimes also meet our own personal darkest moment here. We think it is our families, the stress of the holidays, or here in Southern California the fact that our foundations and our roofs are not  faring well in this incessant rain. Truly it is none of those. This is the time of year to sit in darkness with your own darkness. We usually like to run away from or distract ourselves out of being with our own darkness.

So interesting that only in darkness can you really see the light, literally and figuratively. The birth of light on this planet and your own desire to have your internal flame lite is happening very strongly right now. You can work with the forces at work here and donate some time to just being with you or you can stay super busy and miss the opportunity that the universe is giving you so you can get lit.

A light, a star, a sun, don’t just pop into being they take millions of years to create or at least to be seen by us. Your light will grow as you are willing to be with your darkness. Tell you a fun story. Millareppa was sent off to a cave by himself by his teacher to face his fear. One day after meditating he heard loud bells and clanging noises accompanied by a truly awful steanch. He knew it must be connected to him becasue he was out in the jungle away from everyone. He went to his cave door and there they were a band of what we would call tattered monsters today. Scruffy and scary looking. He recognized them as his fears but wondered what he was supposed to do with them. His teacher did not tell him what to do. He decided to greet them. He bowed and said, ” Welcome.” Half ,yes half of them, vanished. So he decided to follow his instincts and invited the remaining ones in to his cave. Again they reduced in considerable numbers. So he asked them to please  sit  down another bunch “poof”. Only 3 remained. He then said I will go make tea for us. two more gone. When he returned with tea they were all gone. If you want your fears to vanish be kind and compassionate. Ask what then what they came to teach you. Don’t let them tell you tales of past. Tell them “Right now what have you come for? No digressions right now.” Then listen deeply very deeply.

Once we stop retreating they loose their power and the light starts growing. Once our pain gets to ginormous we are willing to change do something we might have thought of as weird. We need enough darkness to feel the mystery of the feminine. We need enough darkness to truly witness the birth of light, the light, our light, to dump the darkness we are being stifled by. Waking up for the light is being born again . Compassion is reining and we get to see it, feel it rejoice in it. Dump the load, your load and let yourself be lite.

What price Joy?

It’s funny that sometimes we work so hard and little seems to come of it and then pop. Things arise from nowhere. Things you never though of come and things that you have been pushing up the hill must be laid to rest.

I have found in my life and observing those around me, that there truly are seasons. When we miss the internal changing of the leaves or the guard we miss great chances.

Sometimes we get so fixated on what needs to be done or happen or or or that we loose the opportunity that shows up unexpectedly, spontaneously.

I want to share something with you that I hope you will incorporate into your life to clear the spiderwebs from your brain and allow JOY. Joy is a big word. It means having fun with what is. Finding the fun where it does not seem to reside.

I had a recent experience that really work me up. This last year I have worked harder than I can remember. I have “Lots to show for it ” I’m also tired and ready to play. To find the play of the infinite so I was sent, express mail a great playmate who wants to take me places. To give me space to relax and be so I can get what is truly next, so I can be more joyously effective. This is what I needed what to you need to be in JOY?

Here is somethings I hope will help clear your hear and heart so you can be open to allowing the majic in. To allow what wants to dance with you in the area or areas you have closed shop.

Stand with legs wide open. The stiffer you feel, the wider you should spread the legs.

Bend over and place the fingertips on the floor right under the shoulders. Bend the knees if necessary. When inhaling, lift trunk and head parallel to the floor. Exhale in three-parts, lowering head and trunk towards the floor in three equal parts.

1-2 minutes

Gift

This pumping motion activates the spinal fluid up and down the spine and through the brain. Allows your legs and spine to stretch. The enhanced breath helps release overwhelming feelings.

What do you do when you hit the wall

What happens when you hit the wall?

A friend of mine did a facebook post today that said if you fall down 7 times you get up eight times. So true, so easy to say. This last weekend seemed like Chicken Little’s mantra of, the sky is falling the sky is falling was happening. One friend burnt some oil and was carrying it outside when it created a flash fire and burnt her hand and arm badly, another had 8 feet of water in her basement in Los Angeles with her husbands total memorabilia collection housed there by her-fireworks and lots of work, my sweet grandson pulled boiling tea down on my grand-daughter’s stomach causing second degree burns and much consternation on all fronts he had no idea of what happened and she mucho pain, my sister got stage 4 prognosis for her newly discovered cancer, and on and on. I was on a board for a community in distress and loved the fact that through much prayer, meditation and action is starting to move in an open direction. Wahe Guru! Forgot a student’s husband who had a heart attack while riding his bike. Saved but angioplasty not fun and his words to all were, “Deal with your stresses. I have a pretty good diet, exercise and now need to deal with my stress better.”

We all know we have to withstand the test of the times but sometimes they just feel like they are all too much and they are going to take us down. I want you to do something just for you and your future.

Make a list of what you need to get through your biggest tests.
What do you wish you could do?
What have you done in the past that works?
What have you done that has not worked?
What things do you have that require very little time that help?
What thinks need more time 1 hr to 1 week to help?

Here are a few things I want to offer you that I have found helpful and trust me these times are sparing no one.

I keep my yoga mat right by my desk and get up and do hand stands all day long. I drink lots of liquids and not coffee. I drink peppermint water, teas of all kinds, lemon water trying to keep hydrated and have fun with it. Also the alkaline factor is important to me so I eat alkaline foods. Most fruits, most veggies, most nuts, seeds, buckwheat, quinoa, millet, long grain brown rice, amaranth. Try to cook in batches so I don’t just open the fridge and hope that some mysterious guest has come and cooked just what I feel like eating. I also schedule lunch meetings at my house so I can make food that I will have for a day or two. Plus it is a great environment to meet in. It is calm and easy to connect in.

Create environments that make people feel relaxed be it your office or home. Yes if you have lots of children at home just make sure you have one spot that is yours, your sanctuary. It doesn’t have to be a room it can just be a section of a room and then declare it as yours and stick to it. When you are there it is your time out no disturbances. Can be your bathtub, a chair in your yard or balcony, a chair or spot in your bedroom or an entire room.

Here are a couple of other things that may just help you as they do me.
Easy and helps your immune system.

Thymus Thump
Wake up the Great Guardian

Place the right hand next to the sternum just above the breast. With a loose wrist and tight fingers start tapping this spot powerfully. If sore tap a little longer.

2-3 minutes

Gift
Helps maintain a good health; stimulates your thymus gland, which governs cellular immunity. Activates rebalancing pressure point.

Good stretch

Arm Lifts
Reach up for relief from eyes to base of spine

Sitting up straight, lift both arms overhead and interlock thumbs. From there you can do several exercises:
• Twisting the torso, inhale left and exhale right. Repeat motion rhythmically.
• Shoulder shrugs; inhale lifting the shoulders up toward the ears, exhale letting the shoulders down. Repeat shrugs rhythmically.
• Eye exercises; inhale deeply and rotate the eyes in a counter clockwise motion as long as you can hold the breath. Exhale. Next inhale, repeat the exercise switching the directions. Exhale. Then inhale again moving the eyes diagonally, upper left to lower right. Exhale. Inhale and switch. Lastly, move the eyes up and down while holding the breath.

1-2 minutes for twisting and shrugs. 30-45 seconds for eye exercise.

Gift
Stretches and opens the spine. Relieves eye stress and strain. Stimulates lymph glands. Helps clear the mind.

Get up and move we so need to move stress through and out of us.
