This is such a special time of the year—most people’s favorite time because things are coming into bloom. The death of winter shows us that it was busy even when it looked like all was dead. The feeding of the seeds was taking place—nourishment for death to feed life.
Last night, I was at a birthday event for a friend of mine whose daughter has been my godchild since I met her. She has always awakened the God in me. We have this very deep, connected bond. I am her majical aunt and she is my other daughter. I have 2 adopted daughters now.
I had a little resistance about going to this event for several reasons. But I showed up because my love child asked me to. It turned out to be fun with chanting and singing of old and uplifting rock n’ roll songs. Then they sang this song about Pritham Bhagauti, my daughter’s name. It was she who inspired the song. They had sent me this recording while she was in the hospital. They asked me to speak on what the name meant. I said the concept of “Pritham” is primal power; “Bhagauti” is both the sword and the princess. It was princess first and foremost. Then Guru Gobind Singh said, “If you always treat the sword as you would a princess you will never misuse the sword.” Thus, he named the sword Bhagauti as well. I can’t say it was easy hearing this song but they did a beautiful job of it.
Like all in life, they are an interesting couple. This is his 3rd marriage and as she says, also his last. She is 18 years younger in calendar years but they are well matched and really get and love each other. Last night, she said, “When I get upset with him, I remember that he is a really, really good man. He is not just good to me or himself or his children but he is good to his soul, to serving others and the community. He is truly a good man.” He turned 60 and is totally “greatful” for this very loving and intense and fun woman who is, in his life, both as a catalyst of change and one who sees him.
Isn’t that what we all want—someone who is with us and sees us? That is where the willingness to change, to die, can be easily or more easily awakened. The more we crave in life, the more there is money, love, friends, and yummy relationships. It all boils down to one thing. Listen up, my loves.
Your willingness to die to what you think you are or can have and the ability to know nothing.
This is the starting point. I know that doesn’t sound fun or good but it is the starting point of all transformation. When we “get stuck” it is fear (of something), that immobilizes us.
I had the great good fortune to speak with two dear beings today who were stuck in seemingly different places in their lives. One was in a very “unhappy” marriage. Obligation and lack of communication left both he and his wife deeply unhappy and unfulfilled. We can’t go on doing the same thing expecting different results. He was at rock bottom and very, very open to help to see a brighter and more fulfilled future. Desire is what raises us from the dead.
Now the other person was a wonderful woman who had fallen asleep and couldn’t seem to rouse herself from this place of no desire. Yet she had a desire to help and heal others, but first she needed to make use of the gifts she had sitting right in her front yard (literally her front yard, in her case). Sometimes, we just can’t see the forest for the trees and there are times we can’t see the trees for the forest. We do need each other to “see” us so we can have the courage to climb back on the life cycle and wake up. Really wake up. Death only happens to the courageous that are not afraid to look at failure and be willing to somehow have desire awakened for them to have a more deeply meaningful life in whatever way that looks to you (and truthfully more than you can ever imagine). Are you ready to bloom and re-imagine your gift of life? To have the “more of you” who want to see how this can be re-imagined?
