Dear Michelle
I’m sure you are not reading all these. I do wish Barack, our president a very happy birthday. I admire you greatly for the grace and feminine power you bring to the white house and the nation. On the other hand I must say I am deeply disappointed with what has been accomplished this term. I know you have inherited a pile of deep dung. I also know I don’t understand most of the secrets that have built up over the years. There is much I don’t understand but what I do understand is this: I and many others like me voted for change. I spent a long time calling for him to be elected along with many other people not once but many times. I am deeply disappointed by the outcome
Things he said he would accomplish that I was looking forward to seeing in place:
Taxing the places that could afford to be taxed like huge coorprations
Removing the subsidies to oil companies.
Getting rid of lobbyists
Supporting cleaner air and environmental issues (I understand the economy has something to do with this but not all here is where great job increases could be supported)
Deeply disappointed in how the Dodd- Frank consumer protection act that has been gutted by lobbyists from 413 to 38 functional or truly non functional rules.
I am appalled at how this debt ceiling crisis was handled. Everyone looked bad from the president down including us as a nation. Graceless, unable to be cooperative, unable to handle our affaires and much more.
And the biggest blow one how the wall street crisis was handled. To say it was badly handled is such a vast understatement. Those who created it out of self serving greed were both rescued and given a slap on the hand instead of being stripped of all wealth and being given a chance to truly serve those whom they hurt the most, their clients who trusted them. We have lost our innocence as a people and a nation.
It was not up to Barack to avert this crisis but up to him to make those who created it make amends and have their toys removed from their playground. They do think of this as their playground and all they got was missing one recess.
There is much more but this being said I’m not sure I’m voting this time for the first time ever. I can’t vote for anyone the Republicans are putting up but I also can’t vote for more of the same we have had. I both want our President to know when to stand up and say this is what we are doing, If you can’t play nice I will take charge . I also want him to be accountable and transparent. I know this may sound like a paradox but it is one that is needed at this time. Knowing when to give that transparency, knowing when to be the leader and bring sides together and when to say enough we are are doing this my way.
I realize this is a new time on the planet and I voted for both you and Barack to bring us into this new time because we needed change big change and we still do. We don’t need more fear we need more connection. We don’t need more secrecy we need more transparency. We don’t need more wars we need more jobs. We don’t need more washington bickering we need (and will ) elect people who want to play together. We must reform the election laws so each person is not spending so time campaigning that they lose perspective of why they are really there, in Washington or their state legislature. The Service aspect is gone it is abut self- service and corruption. This is why I voted for you to shift this. I am deeply disappointed at the huge gap between what was promised and what has actually taken place.
This may not be the birthday wish you hoped for but I hope it can inspire some change of action. I hold that each of us has the power to inspire that in each other.
Blessings
